Last Spring we attempted to create a backyard oasis and ran into a lot of bumps in the road. Now, everyone says that they think our backyard is great but it’s lacking in so many areas. I’ll share more with you later this week.
We are now embarking on a full kitchen remodel. Apparently, “remodel” isn’t the correct word as I was schooled by a kooky interior designer last weekend. Remodeling consists of tearing down walls and moving plumbing and electric. We simply are tearing up our floor, ripping out all existing cabinetry and counter tops, installing new appliances, hardware, and lighting. Sounds like a remodel to me, lady.
One of the biggest problems we ran into with the backyard is who we hired to do the job. Don’t ever hire a friend of the family. It gets too messy when you are unhappy with the completed job. For the kitchen, we met with the guy who did all the cabinetry at my friend’s new home. Cabinet envy. He builds drawers that when you push it closed, it slows down and closes by itself, quietly. Heaven.
We instantly vibed with this guy and knew we had to choose him. We won’t start for at least another 10 weeks and it’s estimated to take 4 or 5 weeks to complete. During the coming weeks, I’ll post my adventures into finding the right materials for the project. And come mid July, I’ll document the entire remodel (and the headaches that will surely come with it!).
For now, here’s a photo we been inspired by.
I adore the idea of those plates on the hood and the green kitchen island. I can’t persuade the hubs to go green but I think we’re definitely going to choose a contrasting color on the island versus the white cabinets.
What do you think? Have you ever done a major remodel and lived through it?
