This Friday, October 7th, is Lee National Denim Day! I will definitely be wearing denim in support of breast cancer research – and my super adorable Lee Denim Day baseball tee that came today!
For the last few weeks I’ve been collecting fundraising for Lee National Denim Day where the net proceeds benefit the EIF Breast Cancer Biomarker Discovery Project and Lee Laboratories. I’m proud to say that as of today Team Wendy Will Blog has raised over $1,500! (PS, I’m kicking some major booty in the blogger competition too).
During October, everything from candy, booze and paper towels have gone pink for breast cancer awareness month. Some call it “pink washing.” I call it annoying. While I think awareness is awesome, I can’t help but think that these items are pink only so that companies can make a quick buck from a sympathetic buyer. But, buy what you want — that’s not what this post is about. I’m guilty of buying a bag of pink M&M’s myself.
What I like about the Lee Jeans campaign is where the money is going.
– the EIF Breast Cancer Biomarker Discovery Project is supported by scientists working on developing a blood test for earlier detection of breast cancer. Early detection yields better survival rates. As of right now, cancer is not detectable by a blood test. Imagine if it was!
– Lee Laboratories are working to find more effective and less toxic treatments for breast cancer and to increase patient access to significant clinical trials across the nation.
If you haven’t already, I encourage you to make a donation to the Lee National Denim Day fundraiser here. Think of what your donation might be able to accomplish!
