Learn to sew

I took Home Ec in the 7th grade at El Rancho Middle School and we learned to sew for a semester. I remember that we made bags to hold our P.E. clothes. I also remember that all the other girls in the class had the cutest fabrics and I had a hideous mustard yellow fabric. Is it possible we spent a whole semester on making this bag? How hard could it have been?

I haven’t sewn much since 1988. Several years ago I was given a small, hobby-type sewing machine. I guess it could be used for quick hems and stuff. I could never get past threading the bobbin. I threaded it with red thread the first time I used it and everything I tried sewing since was sewn with the same red thread.

My friend Fran is a fabulous seamstress. Last Halloween she made her whole family “Alice in Wonderland” costumes that looked like she hijacked them off the characters at Disneyland. My friend Tash takes a sewing class locally. Essentially Home Ec for adults – I love it. And my Mother-in-Law is a master quilter. I have plenty of people around me who I’m sure would be willing to teach me , right?

I also want to scrapbook, blog, paint, and garden…so who knows when I’d ever actually have time to sew, or learn for that matter. I certainly would love to make some drapes for our new windows, or a Halloween costume, or ANY of the adorable crafts I see online. I would love to take pride in something crafty I made with my own two hands.

Can you sew?

I can’t sew, and if I remember MY Cerro Villa home ec class well enough, it’s probably not worth me trying to learn, but I wish I could!

I can sew! We’ll have to get together for a simple sewing night! :)

Not at all. I agree that I’d love to learn but I agree, no time. I save everything for my mom to do when I see her!
