OC Zoo Halloween Zoo-tacular!

October 28, 2011

If you don’t have plans with the family THIS Saturday then this is a must read!

The girl and I were invited to the OC Zoo at the Irvine Regional Park for an early preview of their Halloween Zoo-tacular event taking place Saturday, October 29th from 10:am – 4:00pm!

I know what you’re thinking…”Orange County has a zoo?” Why, yes! Two, in fact. But the Halloween Zoo-tacular is happening only at the OC Zoo nestled within the Irvine Regional Park located at 1 Irvine Road, in Orange.

We were greeted first by Amanda, a 14-year-old mountain lion recovering from extensive back surgery. She was a sweet kitty cat playing peek-a-boo with her visitors and ignoring the raw meat snacks left for her by the Zoo keepers. She seemed pretty spunky leaping onto a large rock formation in her exhibit and showing off as the little ones in our group “ooh” and “awe”‘d.

Adjacent to Amanda’s exhibit was the black bear exhibit where two huge brown-furred bears (did you know the fur of black bears can also be brown, blonde, and ginger colored?) noshed on hallowed pumpkins filled with peanut butter, raisins, and honey. “Honey! Just like Pooh” I heard from another little one in the crowd. Too cute. The bears cracked into their treat filled pumpkins within a nanosecond of waking from their slumber.

As we made our way towards the petting zoo, we saw a couple of raccoons also enjoy their pumpkin surprise, spied a few deer and coyotes, and measured our arm span compared to the wing span of an Eagle! The zoo keepers then unleashed the little ones in our group on the goats who gladly accepted a good brushing from the kids.

The OC Zoo Halloween Zoo-tacular is this Saturday, October 29th from 10:00am – 4:00pm! The first 100 children in costume will receive a free gift (children 12 & under). Trick-or-treating, a scavenger hunt, crafts, and face painting at the Zoo are free with your zoo admission ($2 per person and free for children 2 years old and younger)! It will also cost you $5 per vehicle to enter the Irvine Regional Park.

While you’re there, don’t miss out of the Irvine Park Railroad and pumpkin patch! There are lots of great activities including two inflatable bounce houses, face painting, carnival games (where all kids win a prize), haunted house, and more!

For more information, call 714-973-6846 or visit the OC Zoo website here.

I was invited to preview the Halloween Zoo-tacular event for free. All opinions are my own.

I LOATHE raccoons. Deathly afraid. And what’s funnier is I JUST linked ot my raccoon post on my own blog today. What is that telling me? Oh dear GOD. What is the universe trying to tell me?
