It’s Awards Season, Isn’t It?

January 12, 2012

Too. Much. Pressure.

I’m trying to come up with something snazzy to write in response to an “award” I received but I’ve got nothing. No great intro, no nothing. So, here’s the basics. My pal Tracy – who lives in Chicago and with whom I had the great pleasure of meeting in real life last August at BlogHer – selected my blog for the most prestigious “Tell Me About Yourself” award.

Hold the applause, please.  Just kidding.  I’m really honored she chose me to share on her awesome blog!

Apparently, I’m supposed to tell you all a little about Tracy and where she writes and then make my own nominations of the blogs I think are great. Oh, I also have to divulge seven things my readers don’t know about me. That’s the pressure part of this exercise.

So…Tracy. She’s a doll. She’s beautiful and fun. She runs. She’s a mom. She’s a fantastic writer. In fact, she’s a kick-ass writer. She blogs at It Builds Character and Plight of the Suburanite. She’s acts as a huge support to my blogging endeavors and she’s always full of advice. I’m so glad to say I know her! Oh, she goes by @chimomwriter on Twitter too.

Ok, so now back to moi. Seven things in no particular order. Please don’t judge me.

1. I like watching UFC. Yes, those fights where two tatted dudes beat the crap out of each other in an octagon ring. I don’t know exactly why I’m so drawn to it. I think it’s the adrenaline rush I get waiting for one of the guys to tap out (that means he is signaling to give up on the fight). I especially like watching it with the public and we all “ooh” and “ahh” at the hits and knock outs. So, wondering what I’m doing this Saturday night? Yep, you guessed it. UFC from Rio.

2. I was bullied in junior high. We moved to a new city the summer before I started seventh grade and I didn’t know a soul. And I was awkward and shy and it was probably the worst two years of my life. All the kids knew each other from elementary school and it was extremely hard finding my own clique. Oh, I also took the bus and my stop was the very last pick up so finding a seat was always traumatic and the popular kids sitting in the far back would always shout an awful nickname they gave me when I got on. And no, I’ll never tell you what it was.

3. I {still} know every word of “Hammer Time” by MC Hammer and “I Remember You” by Skid Row. And maybe “I Wanna Sex You Up” by Color Me Badd.

4. Speaking of music, I absolutely swore I would never ever listen to any type of kids music when I had my own children. I vowed that my kid would listen to MY music. My car, my music. Currently in the CD player: “Barbie A Perfect Christmas,” “Stranger Danger,” “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” story and soundtrack, “Yo Gabba Gabba, Volume 2” and “Yo Gabba Gabba, Volume 3.” Now eating my words.

5. I have a recurring dream that I still work at the same office I did before I left to go back to college. The dream is always the same. The office layout is different and I can’t find my desk. But worst of all I can’t ever remember to clock-in (something we never we required to do) or clock-out. I always wake in a panic. Ok dream analyzers…tell me what that means.

6. I will be a hot mess when our almost ten year old dog passes. She’s recently developed a heart condition and though she’s on medication and we’re watching her very closely, I’m afraid she’s going to leave us sooner than I’m ready. Truth be told, this dog and I have shared some special times together. She was always by my side when I was pregnant and never left me alone when I was going through chemo. She was the first I told that I was pregnant – we were the only ones home when I took a pregnancy test! I hope she has many more years.

7. I have a huge fear of flying. So much so I have to take anxiety meds whenever we travel. The summer between fifth and sixth grade we lived in Cerritos, CA and on a Sunday afternoon Aeromexico flight 498 collided with a small airplane resulting in 58 deaths. The wreckage from the small plane ended up in the field of my elementary school and the DC-9 destroyed a neighborhood just blocks from our house. I still get a weird feeling when I hear airplane engines.

On that note…now for the next bloggers!

I adore the following bloggers and they’ve all allowed me to include them on this list! Here’s the rules:
But, first, here is how the award works:

Thank the person who gave the award.

List 7 things that people may not know about you.

Pass the award to 15 other bloggers and notify them.

Post the badge on your blog.

Mama Bub
Whimsy and Wise Events
OC Garden Jen
Periwinkle Papillon
It’s Fitting
Life, Beyond the Bandaids
Within These Walls
My Moodish Mood
Cupcakes & Cutlery

Thanks again Tracy for including me!
But what I really want to know from my readers who are also bloggers – why the groan at the thought of blog awards?

Now that I see that photo of you I think we may have met at BlogHer… Maybe.

I’m pretty sure that would have scarred me from flying too. That’s awful.

It’s possible! I have a terrible memory (and truth be told I had several glasses of wine both evenings out) so we could have definitely met. Are you planning to go to #BlogHer12 this year in NYC? How about any other conferences?

ChiMomWriter January 12, 2012 at 7:18 pm

I’m so glad you didn’t give the audible groan and jumped into this. What’s the point of blogging without a little fun? 😉

And, I love that picture of us and that I got to meet you out at BlogHer. Looking forward to more good times this year!

Love learning more about you here! You have the perfect mix of revealing and endearing! :)

Thanks for picking me… even though with that list up on your blog, I don’t think I know that many other bloggers I can award… :-) Thanks a lot.
