My New Must Have | The Oreck Orbiter | Cleaning Wood Floors

Hello, Lover | Oreck Orbiter

March 6, 2012

You know how you get fixated on something and you just have to have it? That’s how we felt when we renovated our kitchen last summer. We had to have dark wood flooring installed throughout the house. We didn’t even consider other options.

white kitchen, dark wood floors

This isn't my kitchen but the floors are very close

But you know what? Maintaining dark wood floors is a HUGE PAIN IN THE ASS. We have two dogs, a preschooler, and we live above a busy street that kicks up a lot of debris. We weren’t worried about nicks and scratches because we chose a “distressed” finish but HOLY dog hair, dust, and water spots! It drives me BANANAS. We never saw any of these things when we had tile but every speck is visible on the wood floor – especially when the sun shines in during the morning hours and it’s the first thing I see when I stumble into the kitchen.

My husband makes fun of me for owning every kind of floor sweeper to man but I’m always convinced one of them will eventually work. He says it’s an operator fail (and he might be right).

Let me introduce you to my new boyfriend. It’s an Oreck Orbiter and I might be in love. I rented this bad boy from my local vacuum store. I didn’t know exactly what I planned to do with it but I knew the soft cleaning pad would “buff” off any water spot or streak. It worked WONDERS. But, I had to return it and it’s all I can think about since.

Hello, lover.

Like those wood floors, I’ve convinced myself that I must have an Oreck Orbiter of my own. I even found a couple of used ones on Craigslist and someone’s got birthday money burning a hole in her pocket.

Am I CRAZY? Would you buy a floor cleaner for your birthday? If you have dark wood floors PLEASE TELL me how you keep them clean?

I was not compensated to write this post about the fabulous Oreck Orbiter. I shelled out $19.95 per day to rent this bad boy.

You are not crazy! I love clean floors and once received a Dyson for Valentine’s Day. I loved it!

Ha! Thanks for comment Erika! I just feel so weirdly obsessed and they can never be too clean. I put the Oreck in my shopping cart on Amazon….just waiting to click “buy”!

Well, I’m disappointed that that’s not your kitchen. I’m pretty sure I have that pic on one of my Pinterest boards – how wild it would have been if it was yours!

Nope, not mine (it’s gorgeous, huh?). However mine does kick ass too. I have a picture of it on Pinterest. Find me at http://pinterest.com/wendywillblog/ Thanks for stopping in and commenting! See you over on DrawSomething later!!

I have a love/hate relationship with my dark hardwood floors. I love the look of them, but hate the maintenance. I use one of those wide mop brooms and sweep up pretty much every day. I spot clean the floors when I see something that needs to be wiped up and I mop once a week using Bona (OK, maybe not entirely true, sometimes I go two weeks).

I love my steam mop. It may be a lower cost alternative to the Oreck Orbiter.

Ooh…what brand is the steam mop? My friend just bought a Shark and I’m so anxious to hear how it works.
