Giuliana Rancic | Cured by the Magic of T.V.?

April 3, 2012

Giuliana Rancic comes back tonight in her own reality show on the Style Network – Giuliana & Bill. It’s actually one of the better reality shows I watch. No huge train wrecks, just the occasional husband and wife bickering along with their ongoing struggles to conceive a baby. Of course you know Giuliana was diagnosed with breast cancer late last year and from the commercials it appears that the show will chronicle her diagnosis and recovery from a double mastectomy.  The promo for Giuliana & Bill will play after a super short commercial below.

My hope is that Giuliana and Bill let the audience in on the complexities of this disease. I’m afraid that Giuliana will appeared to be cured by the magic of television. Breast cancer is complex and each patient’s diagnosis is totally different. Did you know there are at least seven different types of breast cancer? From the “good” kind to the “bad” kind and all the others in between. And there isn’t one single way to treat breast cancer.

I wrote a post about Giuliana’s decision to opt out of chemotherapy several months ago. I still don’t understand her decision but it’s not for me to understand. Treatment is a very personal decision and one must weigh the pros and cons with what information is available to them.

So, I’m excited to watch the season debut of Giuliana & Bill tonight. Do you plan on watching?

I am in no way, shape or form promoting the Style Network or Giuliana & Bill.

I’ve never watched the show, but the preview is compelling. I may have to check it out. Thanks for posting the preview!

I don’t watch any reality shows at this time, but I remember reading about her and being struck by her openness and honesty. The world could use more of that!

She seems to have been pretty open and honest about it so far, hopedfully they will let it be an honest showing of her ordeal so others can learn or connect with it.

I don’t know that much about her situation other than she was stage one and it was most-likely triggered by her IVF treatments.

My cousin developed breast cancer last year 100% estrogen receptive like yours. It was stage 0 and she opted for a double mastectomy, but no chemo was needed. I get in situations like that why chemo might be overkill.

Either way it must be a very tough decision!

Not sure if I even get Style, but I will be looking it up. She seems like a down-to-earth person who just happens to work in Hollywood. I do think it’s good of them to chronicle the surgery, but I also hope that they go deeper than just showing obligatory “rolling into the operating room” footage and really help educate people about breast cancer. I hope you post more about it!

The video is telling me that the “content is unavailable” I missed it tonight – was it good?

This actually looks good. I am traveling but I have it on my radar now. Thanks!
