Food and Exercise Journal | Day One

May 2, 2012

Day one of the #iwillrockthis weight-loss challenge was a success! I’m so proud to be a part of a group of women who are support and encourage each other. It’s almost like we’re rooting for each other to win rather than taking home the prize ourselves. However, it’s only been one day. I’m sure the competition part of this challenge will hit full stride after the next weigh-in.

So what’s my exercise journal look like to kick off day one?

Yep, I dusted off my Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred DVD and gave it a whorl. When did jumping jacks becomes so hard to do? I swear, any exercise that involved having my arms over my head seriously winded me. And when I tried cheating with an inclined push-up, my own little 3-foot tall trainer yelled from the comfy couch “Mom! They aren’t doing it like that!” Really?! Talk about wanting to teach my daughter the value of hard work and giving it your best, my hands it the floor and I did a push up like a big girl.

I also logged a four-mile walk with a girlfriend who is participating in the challenge as well.

Needless to say, I’m definitely feeling those workouts.  Did I overdo it on day one?  Maybe.  But no pain, no gain.  I’ve got 8 weeks to drop 16 pounds (that’s my goal for this challenge).  Today’s exercise plans include pushing my girl in her stroller to the park and following a list of old-school exercises like lunges, toe touches, wall sits, and so on.

Here’s my food journal for those interested in what I ate:

Breakfast: Herbalife vanilla smoothie with almond milk and fresh blackberries.

Lunch: Roasted beets with goat cheese.

Snacks: raw almonds

Dinner: Baked sweet potato drizzled with balsamic vinegar, sautéd broccoli with garlic and quinoa.

I gave in to my sweet tooth and had a chocolate pudding late in the evening.  But a true win was no soda, no mindless snacking, and no samples when I went to Costco!

Can I keep this up on day two?  For the entire week?  For the entire 8 weeks?  Fingers crossed.

I am in no way promoting or affiliated with Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred or Herbalife products.

I can’t believe what a temptation Costco samples are! Holy mind control, lol.

Great job!

Right? I adore beets and they are so damn easy to make. I had to go easy on the goat cheese because I could totally eat the whole log.

I am IMPRESSED with your menu. I felt like I ate a LOT, but still came in under my calorie allowance (and I was still starving all day!) Yes, we CAN do this for eight weeks! (Although this morning I thought I might die trying to get out of bed, so there’s that!)

Well thanks. Today hasn’t been a “clean” but I’m doing my best and the My Fitness Pal app is totally keeping me in check. I have like 250 calls left for the rest of the day and I haven’t done my exercise yet either!

I bought some flat bread with Flax seed only 100 calories per slice. You could make a healthy pizza.with veggie topping.

I might check that out. Good idea for a snack if the carbs aren’t too much in the flat bread. Trying to keep the processed sugars to a minimum.
