I finally picked up 50 Shades of Grey after hearing all the chatter about it. Truthfully, I can hardly get into it. It’s taken me weeks – WEEKS! – to just get through the first couple of chapters. No one character has fully drawn me in yet. While I am intrigued in finding out what makes Christian Grey tick, I think the novel’s heroine – Anastasia Steele - is a downright snooze-fest! Her naivety drives me bananas and the blushing…Oh.My.God already!
I’m wondering where all the naughtiness is already. Yes, of course I want to get to the juicy stuff because that’s what everyone keeps talking about anyway. But seriously, I can’t read three pages without wanting to go empty the dishwasher.
Now, I know a lot of my peers have written posts about who should be cast in the upcoming 50 Shades of Grey movie. While I do like Kathleen’s choice of Henry Cavil as Grey, I personally think the gorgeous Chris Hemsworth would be fun to watch on the big screen. I came across this photo from last weekend’s MTV Movie Awards and I thought “HOLY HOTNESS!” Honestly, I had to Google him because I had no idea what else he’s been in. FYI – Thor and The Avengers. Well, it seems Mr. Hemsworth has been talked about quite a bit for this role. Fingers crossed.
What about Anastasia Steele? So many female leads have been talked about – Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel, and Kristen Stewart. Meh. I think these ladies are all too pretty to play Anastasia. I envision her more…dumpy, frumpy, and mousey. More like Lena Dunham’s character Hannah from HBO’s GIRLS.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Lena Dunham is really pretty but her GIRLS character is the epitome of dumpy, frumpy, and mousey. Am I totally off track here?

I have zero desire to read this. I wanted to so badly because I want to be like the cool kids, but like you said, I’d rather empty the dishwasher!
My vote would be for Ian Somerhalder (Damon from Vamprie Diaries). He is a little old, but would be perfect! And for Anastasia maybe Emma Watson? I think fanboys would come out in droves to see kinky Hermione.

Oooo that’s a GREAT choice for Anna, but no way will they go that direction. I think Kristen Stewart would be hilarious, since 50 Shades started as Twilight fan fiction online and so Anna is basically BASED on Kristen. And she’s so so so totally boring, exactly like the character in the book.
I will NEVER say no to any more Chris Hemsworth in my life, but I heard Ian Sommerwhatshisface (the guys from the Vampire Diaries) wanted the part and I think he’d be fantastic.
Oh, and I will admit to reading all 3 books. They got sliiiiightly more interested (and dirty) but I’m not jumping out of my pants (heh) to recommend them to anyone.
I’m so not a fan of Kristen Stewart but I get the irony if she is indeed cast for the part. She just always looks stoned to me. And I can’t see her as anyone else after seeing her play Joan Jett.
I personally think Ian is too old. And I picture Christian as a blonde. But he does have those steely eyes!
Ok, Suzanne…on your recommendation I’ll keep plugging along on this book!

See Beth, that’s one of my biggest problems with the books is that the writer hasn’t given us anything to believe that Ana is this beautiful girl. I only see DUMPY and AWKWARD.

And I hear you about the author’s use of “baby” and referring to her private parts as “her sex.” I’ve never heard that before, have you? It’s like it’s written (sometimes) for a tween!
I think it’s one of those British terms. I’m sure if I was more worldly I’d be quite knowledgeable about these things and have all SORTS of vague nicknames for my, uh…lovebox.
After seeing Ryan Gosling in Crazy Stupid Love I think it should be him I haven’t read the book, but I’m gathering that it is somewhere between 9 1/2 Weeks and The Story of O. YES to seeing RG as a lead in this kind of role.

So the funny thing is that Anastasia is annoying as hell until you get to book #3. I liked the third book the best because it actually had a decent storyline. I would vote for Ian Somerhalder in a heartbeat. For Ana I never thought of Emma Watson but now that I think about it I think the two of them would have great chemistry.
I had a friend who said she really liked book 3! So I’m gonna keep chugging along!

I would really like to see this executed as a movie! I’m pretty sure I’ve seen some hot sex scenes in movies that still leave a lot to the imagination and I think with the right director it can be done. Did you hear that are trying to get Angelina Jolie to direct!!

I have enjoyed reading the books! I am almost done reading the second book. I agree that Chris Hemsworth would make a great Christian Grey! Some of my other picks for Christian would be Alexander Skarsgard, Kellan Lutz, Matt Bomer, or possibly Ian Somerlander. My picks for Anastasia would be Jessica Stroup or Emmy Rossum. Emmy Rossum might be a good Leila as well.
OMG Chelle, Alexander Skarsgard is so delicious. I’d love to see him as Christian! And Matt Bomer! Jessica Stroup isn’t a bad choice as Ana. I’m seeing Ana as an unassuming beauty. Someone you wouldn’t stop and say “THAT girl is gorgeous!,” you know what I mean?

He’s exactly what I picture, and for Ana ( who I dont think is boring at all!) would be either Alexis Bledel or the roommate from Girls (not sure of her name).
Hey Jennifer – thanks for stopping by! I’m almost done with the first book and my original thoughts on the cast are SO different now! I would love to see Alexis Bledel in the role of Ana. Alexis is very pretty and I’d really like to see her in an edgy role to finally break out of her Rory Gilmore cast. I’m still not on the Ian train yet though. Maybe it’s because I haven’t seen him in anything. Maybe time for Netflix something!
Chris Hemsworth would be perfect.. Christian is supposed to be striking and Hemsworth is probably the most attractive option..you are way off on Anastasia.. In the book she is a little drab but she is supposed to be beautiful(not that ur pic isnt). My vote is for Kstew but I doubt Hemsworth and Kstew will do another movie together. They are snow white costars..
Oh, yes..I’ve realized I’m totally off on my original choice for Anastasia. The author writes so much about what Christian looks like but barely anything about Ana except for her brown hair. I’m even reconsidering my Hemsworth choice!!
Reading this post made me feel as though I was reading my thoughts out loud. I completely agree that Chris Hemsworth should play Christian Grey. The only difference I would make is that Allison Williams who plays Marnie in Girls should be casted as Anastasia Steele. She seems to fit the description very well.

I think Chris Hemsworth is perfect for the role! But I think your off with Ana, she’s not supposed to be ugly, she thinks little of herself but everybody else insists that she’s beautiful. She’s supposed to have blue eyes, dark hair and what not. Doesn’t sound frumpy or mousey to me. Lena has none of her characteristics. I think Olivia Wilde would be perfect
