I recently attended a private book signing party for Tinsley Mortimer’s debut novel SOUTHERN CHARM at Fashion Island’s Neiman Marcus. Nothing beats being surrounded by Chanel and Jimmy Choo, a sparkly candy buffet by The Hollywood Candy Girls, and specialty cocktails created with HPNOTIQ Harmonie Liqueur. You know, a typical Thursday night for this girl!
Neiman Marcus created a really beautiful event. Stepping off the escalator and behind a velvet rope lay an gorgeous space divided by pink and purple with white couches, stunning flowers, and a couple of hot bartenders. We sipped on “Minty Juleps” and ogled over the fashions while we waited for Tinsley Mortimer to arrive.
Tinsley Mortimer is a beauty ambassador for designer Christian Dior, a handbag and clothing designer, as well as a former reality TV star. She is frequently seen on both the party and charity circuits in New York and is considered one of the most photographed socialites. She can now add author to her resume.
Southern Charm is loosely based on Mortimer’s own life. She has said that “there is a lot of me in Minty for sure” and used her experiences in New York as the inspiration for her book. From her book - Minty Davenport has always dreamed of skyscrapers, yellow cabs, and a life like Elosie’s in New York City. So upon graduation from college, she bids adieu to Charleston and makes a beeline for the Big Apple. When Minty gets to the top of the social ladder, she must decide if the glamourous life she thought she wanted is really everything she hoped it would be.
When I finish the current trilogy I’m reading, I’m definitely digging into Southern Charm. Reviews have called it a great beach read and Carson Kressley praised it for being “sweet, sassy and with a kick.” I’m seeing a beach day in my immediate future!
Be it a blog, magazine, or a book – what are you reading this summer?

What a LOVELY event, and the book sounds like one of those summer reads. Right now the only book I’m reading is a guidebook.
Truth be told, Jennifer…I’d love to read a guidebook. Maybe one for Hawaii? Bali? Hell, even the Grand Canyon!! Thanks for stopping by!
I love all the pics!!!!
Thanks!! All taken with my iPhone and collaged on PicMonkey! Appreciate the comment!! xo
I head to the beach with nice glossy magazines. Redbook for sure, then Whole Living and whatever else looks good that day.
Oh my gosh, Megan…I’m such a magazine junkie! I’ll read a glossy tabloid any day of the week! And Whole Living is my absolute favorite magazine!! Thanks for stopping in!!
This looks like so much fun! The pics make it look so fancy…I would have had to shop & change my clothes in a dressing room in order to fit in…ha! Would love a bite of one of those cupcakes…
O M Gosh…me and you both! I felt like a fish out of water amongst all that glamour!!
What fun! Love the gorgeous photos!
This Summer – I’m dreaming about reading but in reality – it’s mostly blog posts and theme park maps… Ahhh… the life of a mom of boys!
Nothing wrong with blog posts and theme park maps! Two of my favorites too!!
This looks like an awesome time. Those Jimmy Choos look so much fun to wear!
Don’t they Ericka?! I wanted to try them on…and then put them back on the shelf because they are WAY too expensive for this girl!!
I want the sparkly shoes in the first photo, and a copy of the book with a slide of those cupcakes. The perfect trio to satisfy a girl’s indulgence
Yep, shoes, books, and cupcakes. I think I’ll put that on my Christmas list! Thanks for stopping in!
Looks like an amazing event. Loved all the shoes, even though I would NEVER be able to walk in them!
If it ain’t a flat or a flip flop, I’m out!
Looks like a fun event and read. I’m looking for something fun this summer to read. Might have to pick this book up.
You should!
Thanks for stopping in and commenting! xo
What is the deal with all the “heel-less” shoes?! So glad I am past that stage in life and can get away with wearing orthopedic velcro shoes. LOL
But I still love a good beach read and am adding this one to my library list!
LOL! Hilarious, Adrienne!!
Hell, I’m only 37 and I’ve let those kind of shoes go a LONG time ago!! Thanks for stopping in and commenting!!
